An Associate Degree in Criminal Justice is a degree which specializes in criminal justice systems and its operations. Its span is of two-years. It focuses on the study of various federal, state and local laws and legal systems. The student can pursue the profession of criminal justice after completion of the course or can enrol in higher studies for a four-year undergraduate degree. Transfer of credits is possible however requirements differ for each institution. Enrollment can be done directly in the third year.

Minimum GPA- The students are supposed to have a minimum GPA.
Credits- To major in that area of study, the course must be completed with 60-75 credits (varies for different institutions).

Juvenile Justice- The area of criminal law which deals with the crimes committed by children or adolescents/youth and how they are handled through rehabilitation measures.
Community Policing- It is the system of allocating the police officers to a particular area to become familiar with the place and people.
Interviews and Interrogations- These are the communication techniques which are used for enforcement of a law. Interviews are non-accusatory whereas interrogations are more of getting to know the offence committed.
Court Procedures and evidence- This subject explores how the proceedings of the court take place and what are the various procedures used in the judicial systems. The importance of evidence is highlighted for a case.
Introduction to computers- It is used for teaching the students the importance of research, analysis and data collection with the help of computers. It helps in collecting the records of criminals, their history, case studies etc.
Criminology- It is the scientific study of crime and their responses, causes, and methods of prevention.
Ethics- It is the system which focuses on what is right or wrong for an individual or a society. It is basically moral philosophy.
Counselling- This subject explores the help and counselling needed for the offenders after getting released from the prison or after committing a crime.
