An associate degree in Cyber Security is a two-year undergraduate program aimed to provide the students with all the information about cyber security and information systems. It looks forward to teach the students the ethical ways of controlling the network and securing it. The program is worth approx 60 credits, depending on the college/university and credits can be transferred if the student wishes to study further and enrols in a course directly in the third year. However, the requirements and criteria for various institutions are different.
Some features of this course are:
It gives the necessary information about networks and security.
Teaches the students various ways to protect network and information systems and work in different organizations.
Supports the nation’s network and information infrastructure.
Prepares the students for entry and mid-level jobs placement.
It prepares the students with information and critical analysis skills needed in this field and also makes them ready to take up leadership roles.
Technical aspects of network and technology are taught.
Students will learn tools of security and system devices which are used by professionals in cybersecurity.
It is a stepping stone towards a career in cybersecurity and information systems. It teaches the valuable skills needed for a student to enter this field, without going to college. It provides technical knowledge and skills to the candidates and after completion of this degree; they can pursue their four-year undergraduate degree as well, by enrolling in the third year directly, however requirements and criteria for enrollment may vary for different colleges. The course structure is flexible and sessions are held for interaction between the teachers and the students.

Computer Systems: This gives an introduction to computer systems such as software, hardware and networking. The hardware consists of data representation, security, storage etc. The software consists of both system software and applications.
Programming in C++/C: The use of the programming is used to decipher information and process it along with problem-solving. Algorithms and logic are used to translate data into the information by coding, testing, designing etc.
Programming in Java: This language is used for developing Web applications. It would help the students to develop programming based on object orientation and interactive applications can be developed using Java.
Networking Principles: Fundamental networking principles are introduced in this subject such as Open System Interaction (OSI), IP/TCP Protocol, Network media and so on.
Fundamentals of Cyber Security: It provides a basic foundation in the field of information security which can help develop businesses and capabilities.
Network Theory and Design- Introduction to application, design and theory of networks are introduced in this subject. It also includes how networks are created and worked on.
Statistics- Development of statistical methods such as graphs, variation and central tendency are introduced. This gives the review of concepts like probability, regression, correlation etc. It is application based.
Information Security: The methodology and principles of managing information come under information security. This provides an understanding of network management and information security for various organizations.
