Medical Billing and Coding is a course in which students learn to translate the reports into special alphanumerical codes for the diagnosis of patients and insurance companies. This course has a wide variety of options to choose from. The program is only offered in an Associate degree program.

A Certificate in Medical Billing and Coding course takes one year or less to complete on an average. In this program, students learn to complete insurance forms, filing claims using alphanumerical codes. The students also learn basic medical terminology, coding basics, legal and ethical issues in healthcare.
An Associate degree in Medical Billing and Coding is a two-year degree program in which students learn about basic medical terminology. The other concepts that are also covered in this two-year course are- Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, Medical Office Management, Health Information Management, and Clinical Classification Systems. A minimum of 72 credits is required for the completion of this course.
There are few requirements which need to be fulfilled before one applies for an admission in the medical billing and coding program. The student should have a GED or a high school diploma with a minimum of 2.0-3.0 GPA.
With a degree in Medical Billing and Coding, a student learns to manage the medical office efficiently as in these two years he/she learns the basic requirements required for the efficient and flexible management of Medical Offices.
