Undergraduate Admission Process

This program is for high school graduates who will be attending college for the first time.   • The first step of admission is filling the online admission form called My EIU.

  • This portal forms the basis of all sorts of communication between the University and the candidate. The candidate can check the status of their form using this portal only.

  • Since there are some facilities reserved on the basis of one's residency so, it is a recommendation to fill the Illinois Residency Determination form to verify one's citizenship.

  •  A final transcript reflecting coursework completed from grades nine through twelve with the graduation date posted will be required prior to the initial registration. is needed to be submitted. Note: Certificates of completion are not accepted.

  • In case the student does not have any high school transcript, the GED certificate will be accepted.

  • Scores from the American College Test (ACT) or the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT1) are compulsory to submit.

  • The application has a mandatory section for Core Subject Pre-requisites. The subjects are needed to be taken and passed with good credits in order to complete the application process.

  • Other than this, 2 letters of recommendation and a paragraph of 500 words stating why the University must admit you are also mandated for the application process.


Graduate Admission Process

Graduate admissions involve applying to the Graduate School as well as applying to a graduate program if you are seeking a degree in a particular discipline. One will accomplish all of this with the MyEIU account. For applying into the graduate process, one may consider the following:

  • The admission process is more or less similar to that of the undergraduate ones with few additions.

  • Must possess 24 or more semester hours in a particular field of study, carrying potential grades.

  • Applicants whose native language is not English must take an English proficiency exam. For the Internet-based TOEFL 80 is the minimum aggregate and for paper-based TOEFL is 550. The International English Language Testing System’s minimum score is 6 bands.
  • The candidate must submit proof of Visa and their nationality along with a passport photograph.

EIU demands moderate academic records. Academically, it has easy requirements for admission test scores, generally admitting students who score in the top 68 percent. The following are the general requirements for getting into FSU:

  • The candidate must first create an account to fill the application form at My EIU.

  • The online portal is the one-stop communication portal for all the candidates to the university. The candidates can check their status and also keep an eye on any important announcements using this portal.

  • Submit the High School Transcript or GED certificate along with a non-refundable $30 Application fee.

  • The candidate must also fill the Illinois Residency Determination form since facilities are segregated on the basis of their location.

  • Must comply with the core curriculum requirements such as at least 4 years of English, 4 years of Mathematics(basic calculus), 3 years of Lab Science, 3 years of History/Social Science, and 3 years of a foreign language.

  • One must submit college essays on the topics that would be given by the college itself. In order to get through EIU, one must excel the art of essay writing.

  • At least two letters of recommendation. Usually, the recommendation of any mentor or a professor is accepted. If the individual had undergone an internship or has any work experience the letter of recommendation from the company is considered.

  • Senior grades are an important factor in our admission decision. We will not release a decision without having some indication of your academic performance from the senior year; examples include, but are not limited to, the first quarter, first semester, or first trimester grades.

  • Standardized test scores in ACT/SAT and average GPA must be met. The SAT test score must range between 920-1110 and that of ACT lies between 18-22. The GPA requirement depends upon the course or program track one is enrolled in. However, the estimated GPA is 3.33 out of 4.00.

  • For candidates applying for a graduate or postgraduate programs, additional test scores such as that of GRE and GMAT are mandatory. In case these tests are not undertaken by the candidate, he/she may apply via any other equivalent test scores.

  • Transfer students must comply with the 24-hour credit requirements else they must satisfy the other requirements with great success.

  • English Proficiency Test in the case of International Students. If the person is undergoing a TOEFL test, then scoring 80 is mandatory to pass the eligibility criteria. And for IELTS, it is 6 bands.
