The goal of the Financial Aid Office of El Camino College is to assist students in securing a quality education without missing an opportunity because of their financial situation. It meets its goal majorly through supplementing the efforts of its students (and those supporting its students) in meeting educational cost and by providing financial aid to students who would be unable to attend this institution without such assistance.

ECC assists qualified students with grants, loans, and scholarships from Federal, State, Institutional, and other funding sources.

Scholarships

More than 550 scholarships totaling over $600,000 are awarded annually to incoming high school students, students attending El Camino College, and students transferring to the four-year university of their dreams. Many of these scholarships fully cover the cost of tuition, textbooks, and fees.

The ECC Foundation Scholarship Office has a varied scholarship program with criteria including:                    

  • Honors and academic achievement

  • Financial need

  • Leadership and community service

  • Organizational and campus club affiliation

  • International students

The El Camino College Foundation Online Scholarship Application is open from August through December of every year. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better and at least six graded units of El Camino College coursework are required for all scholarships. Students must be enrolled in at least six units to qualify for a scholarship.

The El Camino College Foundation Online Scholarship Application can be accessed through the portal at MyECC. Once you have logged into the portal using your username and ID, click on the "scholarship application" link to register with the online scholarship database.

NOTE: All incoming freshmen enrolled in the fall semester with a minimum of six units for college credit are eligible to apply, as your coursework will have been completed at the time of the review process.

Tips

  • When applying for scholarships, watch deadlines! Each scholarship program runs on its own schedule.

  • Do your homework! Does your parent's employer or organizations they belong to offer scholarships? How about organizations and businesses within your community?

  • Develop a great personal statement - This is an important part of your application! Create one in MS Word then copy and past it into the application.

Application Process for Financial Aid

Step 1 - Collect financial related documents for the student and his/her parents if applicable (e.g., tax returns, payroll stubs, bank account statements, etc.) to facilitate the completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CADA). To learn about the documents, you may need to reference, please visit the FAFSA website at www.fafsa.ed.gov or the California Dream Act Application website at https://dream.csac.ca.gov/.

Step 2 - Apply by submitting the FAFSA or CADA online. Your financial aid application should be completed as soon as possible after October 1 of each year. The California priority deadline for submission of the FAFSA or CADA is March 2 of each year. El Camino College's Federal School Code is 001197.

Step 3 (FAFSA) - Once you have submitted the FASFA, a Student Aid Report (SAR) will be sent to you electronically if you provided an email address on the FAFSA, or via U.S. mail if you did not provide an email address on the FAFSA. Once you receive the SAR, please review it carefully to ensure that all of the information on the report is accurate. If corrections or updates need to be made, please log into the FAFSA website to make corrections.

Step 4 - Log in to your El Camino College issued email account (MyECC). All communication from the El Camino College Financial Aid Office will be sent to you via email or posted on your MyECC account. For example, your estimated award letter will include information about your eligibility for federal and state financial aid, the awards (CCPG, Cal Grant, Pell, SEOG, Work Study, etc) and dollar amounts awarded to you.

Step 5 - Sign up for your refund/disbursement preference (direct deposit to an existing checking account, debit card, or paper check) to receive your financial aid. Students should select a refund preference at RefundSelection.com.
