Emporia State University (ESU) is a public institution established in the year 1863 and the first class was started in the year 1865. It is a military-friendly institution that is spread around 218 acres and consists of 70 buildings. It changed its name four times with respect to the growth. The school was founded as Kansas Normal School and finally got the current name in 1977.
