Rowan University Admission Requirements 2022

Rowan University (RU), New Jersey has an acceptance rate of 73%. With more than 80 bachelor's and 60 master's degree programs, four doctoral programs, and two professional programs, students can pursue any number of professional callings.

RU’s nationally ranked academic programs are taught in small classes, by faculty who are engaged with their students, connected in their fields, and invested in student achievement. For those unsure of what degree to pursue, RU’s Exploratory Studies Program provides supportive advising and resources designed to allow students to learn more about a variety of majors and careers until they find the path that is right for them. The most popular majors at Rowan University include Business, Management, Marketing, and Related Support Services; Psychology; Engineering; Education; and Communication, Journalism, and Related Programs.

The institute also offers academic programs that are either fully online courses or in combination with online and face-to-face class instruction (hybrid). Several of RU’s online offerings are accelerated to provide applicants with the quickest path to reaching their educational goals.

Application Process

The application process for Rowan University’s various programs are as follows

Undergraduate Program

Applicants for admission to Rowan University must present certificates or transcripts proving graduation from an approved secondary school, or they must indicate that graduation is scheduled during the current scholastic year. GED equivalencies are considered in lieu of high school diplomas. Applicants should ensure that this information is forwarded to the Admissions Office.

Applicants must show they have completed or are in the process of completing a minimum of 16 college preparatory courses to be eligible for consideration for admission. The New Jersey Commission on Higher Education has set the following college preparatory guidelines for admission:

• 4 units - English

• 2 units - laboratory science

• 3 units - college prep mathematics (Algebra I & II, geometry)

• 2 units - social studies

• 5 units - Additional work in at least two of the following areas: English, history, languages (minimum of two units in one language), mathematics, social science, and science.

Entrance Examinations

Applicants should submit either the SAT I or the ACT test scores in support of their application to Rowan University.

Scholastic Assessment Test SAT I tests are given in numerous centers, usually in high schools, throughout the United States. Applications should be sent to College Entrance Examination Board, P.O. Box 592 Princeton, NJ 08540, or visit the official link. Applicants should request that results be sent to Rowan University: C.E.E.B. Code 2515.

American College Testing Program Student registration manuals are available in most high schools. Materials can also be obtained from ACT, P.O. Box 168, Iowa City, Iowa 52240, or online at www.act.org.

Test-optional Admission

The test-optional admission policy is designed to provide access to students who are successful in the classroom, regardless of standardized test scores. Students who have excelled academically can take advantage of the Test-Optional Admissions path.

Prospective students who have a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher may choose not to submit their SAT scores as part of the Admissions application process. There are some exceptions, including prospective engineering majors, business majors, EOF applicants, home school students, international students, and those applying for merit scholarships

Graduate Program

All post-baccalaureate and graduate-level programs (including doctoral, master level, and professional certificates) offered at Rowan University are administered by the Division of Global Learning & Partnerships Office of Graduate and Professional Studies

Eligibility for Admissions

Admission requirements cited below for each academic program offered through the Division of Global Learning & Partnerships at Rowan University.

• Undergraduate admission: Rowan Global offers non-traditional degree-completion (transfer) programs for undergraduate students. Any applicant who has completed 24 or more college credits at another institution is considered a transfer student. Students seeking a second bachelor's degree are also considered transfer students, whether they graduated from Rowan or from another institution. Most undergraduate-level programs at Rowan require a minimum GPA for admission. However, meeting that minimum does not guarantee admission due to competition for available openings. Admission decisions for applicants who've attended college more than five years ago are based on motivation, life experiences, career advancement, and college transcripts.

• Post-baccalaureate and graduate admission: To be admitted to a post-baccalaureate or graduate-level program at Rowan University, an applicant must have earned a baccalaureate degree from a regionally-accredited college or university in the United States or its equivalent from a foreign institution of higher education. Faculty-admission committees for post-baccalaureate and graduate-level programs use different evaluation criteria, according to the requirements of the profession and the number of applicants applying to the program.

Doctoral program

The Ph.D. degree is awarded on the basis of each individual student’s contribution to new scientific knowledge. Rowan University offers doctoral programs in  Education, Clinical Psychology, Biomedical Engineering, Cell and Molecular Biology. During the program, students will have ample opportunities to work alongside and collaborate with faculty members.

All doctoral programs require similar requirements and follow the same application process as mentioned in the graduate program section.

International Students

All International applicants must complete an I-20 Application and supporting documentation. RU encourages applicants to begin the I-20 application immediately after submitting the university application. Upon academic acceptance, their I-20 application will be processed by the International Center. Applicants are requested to submit photocopies of their I-20 application materials directly to the International Center. They will need the original documents when visiting the U.S. Embassy.

Undergraduate applicants enrollment process

The steps are as follows:

• Submit the Online Application, essay, and the $65 application fee

• Submit one signed Academic Letter of Recommendation

• Submit Official Transcripts

  • If an applicant has a U.S. High School Transcript, he/she is requested to submit an official copy

  • If an applicant has a son-U.S. Secondary School Transcript he/she is requested to submit their official copy and a certified English translation.

• Submit standardized language test scores - a TOEFL score of 70,  IELTS score of 6.0, or Pearson Test of English (PTE) score of 50. International students must submit standardized test scores unless they are exempt (Language Policy). If applicant don't meet the English required scores please see Conditional Admissions.

• Rowan University accepts the Duolingo test as an English proficiency exam. The minimum score we require is 95.

• For Engineering Majors and Business Majors: official SAT or ACT scores are required

• For Performing or Creative Arts Majors (art, music, theater, and dance): an audition or portfolio review is required

Graduate applicants enrollment process

The International Graduate Admissions office carefully considers each applicant individually and selects candidates who will be academically successful, contribute to student life, and benefit most from the Rowan experience. Application deadlines for completing the application and submitting all required documents are June 1 for fall and November 1 for the spring semester.

 The steps below will help applicants prepare their international graduate application.

• To start the application for international graduate admission to Rowan University, create an account in the admissions portal here. All notifications will be sent to the email address the applicant uses to apply, including their admission decision.

• He/she will be able to view the following in their admissions portal:

  • Their application checklist (including received/missing documents)

  • Application updates

  • Their admission decision

• Once the applicant has created an account, he/she can submit their application to their program of choice, and start uploading the required documents. Their admissions portal will always have the most up-to-date status of their application. To check the status of an application, applicants must simply log in to their portal.

Note: There is no application fee for international graduate applicants.

Applicant’s checklist will reflect items required for their specific program and will appear that they have been received or that they are still needed to complete their application. If a required item displays as missing, it has not been received or is still being processed.

International Student Language Policy

An applicant is considered an international student if they need a non-immigrant visa such as F1 and J1 in order to study in the United States. International students must show proof of English language proficiency. See below for exemptions

Proof of English Language Proficiency

Prospective students must meet one of the following as proof of English language proficiency:

• Duolingo: Effective immediately, Rowan University accepts Duolingo test as an English proficiency exam. The minimum score we require is 95. Applicants can take the test referring to visit here.

• TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 70 (or minimum score of 525 on TOEFL PBT) for Traditional

Admissions – official scores must be sent directly to Rowan from the test provider. Rowan

University accepts TOEFL "MyBest Scores". The university code for TOEFL score report is 2515.

• IELTS: minimum score of 6.0 for Traditional Admissions – official scores must be sent directly to Rowan from the test provider.

• PTE: minimum score of 50 for Traditional Admissions – official scores must be sent directly to Rowan from the test provider.

• Successful completion of Rowan’s English Language Program (ELP) Level 5 with a minimum GPA score of 3.0 – must provide Certificate of Completion and letter from Director of ELP.

• Successful completion of ELS – Level 112.

• A minimum grade of 5 or higher in International Baccalaureate (IB) English-A course or a minimum grade of 6 or higher in International Baccalaureate (IB) English-B course.
