It is interesting to note that, every year, around 58% of students at SCC receive some kind of financial aid, while the total amount of assistance/loans provided is $2,858,714. More information regarding the financial assistance schemes can be accessed on SCC’s official financial aid page at http://www.shoreline.edu/enrollment-services/financial-aid/. At SCC, the total percentage of applicants who receive the Federal Grant stands at 39%. On the other hand, 50% of the candidates get the Student Grant, 12% receive the Institution Grant, and 38% get the Pell Grant. While the Federal Grant awardees receive an average aid of $3,886, the State Grant receivers and Institution Grant beneficiaries get $3,279 and $1,300, respectively. And, for the Pell Grant awardees, the average aid amount is $3,818. Among other things, the annual family income of the applicant plays a major role in determining the total financial aid they are actually eligible to receive. Alternatively, the candidates can also avail of monetary benefits like student loans, apart from financial grants and scholarship schemes to pay for their studies. But, they should understand that student loans are borrowed at a certain rate of interest, unlike grants and scholarships. While grants and scholarship schemes do not require repayment, student loans should be repaid by the applicants within a given period. At Shoreline Community College, the percentage of candidates who opt to avail of student loans is around 17%.
