It is interesting to note that, every year, around 98% of students at SKCTC receive some kind of financial aid, while the total amount of assistance/loans provided is $3,889,630. At SKCTC, the total percentage of applicants who receive the Federal Grant stands at 58%. On the other hand, 96% of the candidates get the Student Grant, 27% receive the Institution Grant, and 58% get the Pell Grant. While the Federal Grant awardees receive an average aid of $4,525, the State Grant receivers and Institution Grant beneficiaries get $2,293 and $2,064, respectively. On the other hand, the average aid received by the Pell Grant awardees is $3,804. Among other things, the annual family income of the applicant plays a major role in determining the total financial aid they are actually eligible to receive. Alternatively, the candidates can also avail of monetary benefits like student loans, apart from financial grants and scholarship schemes to pay for their studies. In contrast to grants and scholarships, student loans are taken by the candidates at a certain rate of interest. Candidates are also required to repay these loans within a given period. Every year, around 15% of the applicants to Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College opt for student loans.
