Scholarships
Freshman Scholarships: Depending upon the students’ family and academic profile, the eligible students are offered with these merit based awards. Following is a list of scholarships for you to choose from:

Presidential Scholarship: The most prestigious award reserved for students with excellent academic credentials where the amount is $25,000 and is renewable.

Friars Scholarship: A $23,000 award for freshmen attending SBU where the students need to maintain a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or more.

Provost Scholarship: This applies for new candidates with splendid academic achievement. A $21,000 award is offered where they must ensure to maintain a GPA of 2.75 or more.

Jandoli Scholarship: A $1,000 scholarship that demands satisfactory academic performance from candidates pursuing Journalism and Mass Communication degrees or Strategic Communication And Digital Media.

St. Marianne Cope Scholarship: A $1,000 scholarship offered to those pursuing Elementary Education, Physical Education or Sport Study degrees.
Transfer Scholarships
Students with GPA of 2.25 or more are awarded with transfer merit scholarships. The students are categorised based on their prior college GPA range:

GPA of 3.5 and above: The commuters are awarded with $12,000 whereas the residents are awarded with $20,000.

GPA of range 3.0 - 3.49: A $9,750 award is reserved for commuters and $13,000 for residents.

GPA of range 2.25 - 2.99: For commuters the amount is fixed to $7,500 and for residents it is $10,000.
There are two categories of transfer scholarships:

Phi Theta Kappa/Honor Scholarship: This is offered in addition to any other merit scholarship depending upon the students’ membership at the Phi Theta Kappa or any recognized academic honor society.

Southern Tier Scholarship: A $2,500 renewable award for high school students who have graduated or at present reside in Chautauqua (NY), Allegany (NY) or Cattaraugus (NY) countries.
Grants
Federal Grants

TEACH Grant: This grant allows students to teach in low-income student schools for which they receive awards with a minimum of $4,000 of a maximum of $8,000 per year for funding their education.
State Grants

New York State Math & Science Teaching Incentive: The eligible students are provided with a $6,470 award without any service requirements.

Programs for Child Welfare Workers, New York: This is for those who have volunteered for Child Welfare and Development.
Institutional Grants
With respect to certain criteria, students are offered with grants from the institution, as well.

AmerciCorps Matching Grants: A $5,550 full-time service grant provided every year to campus-based graduates.

Dean’s Graduate Scholarship: A grant that is applied against 20% of the tuition and fees for students studying in Olean or the Buffalo Center.

Franciscan Mission Grant: This applies for campus-based graduate study where 30% of the grant is applied against tuition fees for Catholic schools and organizations.

Young Nonprofit Professionals Network: This aid is targeted towards the graduates of Olean or the Buffalo Center where they receive 20% tuition reduction. For SBU’s online graduation programs, there is a 10% reduction in tuition and fees.
Loans

Federal Direct Stafford Loans: Students without any demonstrated financial need may apply for these loans. The borrowing amount is limited to $20,500 which is applied against the tuition and campus housing costs.

Federal Direct PLUS Loans: Eligible candidates must ensure that they do not have any kind of adverse credit check or else they might get deferred.

Perkins Loans: These are offered by the university, itself.
