It is interesting to note that, every year, around 45% of students at TU receive some kind of financial aid, while the total amount of assistance/loans provided is $5,962,802. At TU, the total percentage of applicants who receive the Federal Grant stands at 11%. On the other hand, 37% of the candidates get the Student Grant, 37% receive the Institution Grant, and 11% get the Pell Grant. While the Federal Grant awardees receive an average aid of $5,522, the State Grant receivers and Institution Grant beneficiaries get $3,159 and $45,424, respectively. And, for the Pell Grant awardees, the average aid amount is $4,762. The annual family income of the applicants is also considered for determining the total financial assistance that they will be eligible for. On average, students with an annual family income of less than $30,000 will obtain a federal aid of $61,422 per year. For the $30,001-$48,000 and $48,001-$75,000 family income brackets, the average aid amount stands at $54,317 and $47,541, respectively. Those with an annual income level of $75,001-$110,000 would receive $40,866, while candidates with more than $110,000 of family income receive an average federal aid of $19,654. Apart from financial grants and scholarships, candidates can also avail of monetary benefits like student loans to fund their education. In contrast to grants and scholarships, student loans are taken by the candidates at a certain rate of interest. While grants and scholarship schemes do not require repayment, student loans should be repaid by the applicants within a given period. Every year, around 21% of the applicants to Tufts University opt for student loans.
