UConn acceptance rate
UConn accepted 17,015 of its 34,886 applicants in 2020, putting its acceptance rate around 49%.
That’s lower than most of its in-state competitors, like the University of Hartford (71%), University of Bridgeport (57%), and East Connecticut State University (66%).
UConn also has the highest number of applicants among these schools. Its admission yield (the number of accepted applicants that enroll) is second only to ECSU. However, UConn’s applicant population is much higher, indicating it’s still a top choice for Connecticut students staying in-state.
As for New England Schools outside of Connecticut, UConn’s acceptance rate is a little bit lower than some of its public university competition, like Penn State (56%) and University of Vermont (68%).
UConn admissions statistics: enrollment rate and admission yield
UConn falls between those two in terms of applicant numbers and admission yield. Penn State has a greater number of applicants and admission yield (likely due to name recognition), while Vermont is lower in these areas.
UConn’s acceptance rate is just barely above another public university competitor’s, the University of Maryland — College Park (47%), too. These two schools have nearly the same number of applicants, but Uconn has a lower yield.
That said, UConn still admits applicants at a much higher rate than prominent private New England institutions, such as Boston University (22%) and, of course, the Ivy League institutions. Still, UConn may enjoy higher admissions yields than some private New England schools due to state school affordability.
Overall, UConn is the most selective school inside Connecticut, but it’s closer to the average when looking at institutions throughout New England.
