Are you worried about paying your university fee?

USFSM understands your worries and they recognize the need for many students. To help them pay the fee, the university offers various federal, state, and military aid programs along with institutional grants. To check your eligibility for these aids and scholarships, all you need t do is fill the FAFSA application form.

Last year, 55% of students of USFSM received financial aid and scholarships with a total amount of $ 6658896. The average federal loan amount was $ 4690.

The financial aid and scholarship at USFSM are divided into four different parts which I shall be explaining below. 

Federal Grants

The Federal Aids available for the students are Pell Grant, Federal Work-study, Direct Subsidized Loans, federal supplemental educational opportunity grant, Teach grant. Last year, 40% of students availed federal grants with an average amount being $5,553.

State Aid

The most popular financial aid at USFSM is state aid with 62% of students availing it last year. State aid includes Florida student assistance grants.

The FSAG is a state-funded grant for eligible undergraduate students. Funds are awarded based on full-time enrollment, but pro-rated each semester if enrolled less than full time (a minimum half time enrollment is required).

Institutional Grant

The USF Grant is a USF-funded grant for undergraduate and graduate students with financial need. Funds are awarded based on full-time enrollment, but pro-rated each semester if enrolled less than full time (a minimum half time enrollment is required). Different colleges of USFSM provides various scholarships for bright students. Last year, 56% of students received institutional grants with an average amount of $ 2693.

Its common sense that students with less family income are in need of financial aid more than those with higher family income. So as the family income increases, the average financial aid decreases. 

Students whose family income is below $30k or between $30k to $48k get half of their fee through financial aid and amounts to $11,156 and $10,273. As the family income increases the need for financial aid is less, that's why students with more than $48k and 75k to 110k family income get only a quarter of their fee with financial aid which amounts to $5,968 and $4,535

Loans may be awarded to you, regardless of financial need. At USFSM, 15% of students took student loans with an average loan amount being $ 4763. Also, the loan default rate is only 5 % which is lower than the national average of 7 %. This creates a good image for the institute and it makes it easier for students to take a loan.
