Being an urban public university, the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee (UWM) is quite affordable, considering other options of its stature. However, it also provides students with numerous scholarships, grants, and financial aids. These aids are based on merit, as well as, financial needs. The students receive a total of around $71,294,810 in the form of different aids, as estimated in 2018-2019. Approximately 55% of the total student population receives some kind of financial aid during enrollment, or after enrollment.
Scholarships
Scholarships are parts of gift aids, which means that the students will not be expected to pay the money back. John Palmer Smith Scholarship: To avail this scholarship, you are expected to be admitted in the UWM Helen Bader Institute for nonprofit management as a graduate certificate or a Master of Science student. The eligibility is subject to merit, and financial needs of the student

Nicholas J. Papastamatiou Scholarship: This scholarship is awarded to an outstanding graduate student in the field of theoretical physics.

Founding Faculty Scholarship: New freshmen with a GPA of 3.5 or higher are eligible for this scholarship.

Grants
In addition to the scholarships, UW Milwaukee also provides grants, which are again a part of the gift aids. The grants are given based on the students’ financial needs. The UW Milwaukee, as a well-known university provides its students federal, state, as well as, institutional grants. Some of the prominent grants are listed below:
Federal Grants

Federal Pell Grant: This grant helps students who are in dire need of finances, and have no undergraduate or graduate degrees. You will be eligible for this grant for 12 full-time semesters.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG): You have to be eligible for the maximum Pell Grant to be eligible for FSEOG.
State Grants
You would be required to complete the FAFSA to be eligible for any of the following Wisconsin state grants:

Wisconsin Grant: You will be eligible for this grant if you have enrolled in at least a half-time program. You will receive this grant for a maximum of 10 full-time semesters.

Tuition Assistance Grant: Haven’t received the Wisconsin Grant despite being an in-state student? Don’t worry. This grant is for in-state students who haven’t received the Wisconsin Grant. It is based on state funding and you have to have a minimum of half-time enrollment.
Institutional Grants

Panther Grant: Appropriately named, this grant is for first-time freshmen or eligible bridge-required students. You have to be enrolled in a full-time course on the main campus, which is the Milwaukee campus for you to be eligible for this grant.
